To encourage innovation and maintain a = fresh design=20 challenge for each new year, the design requirements and performance = objectives=20 will be updated for each new contest year. The changes will provide new = design=20 requirements and opportunities, while allowing for application of = technology=20 developed by the teams from prior years. Cash prizes are $2500 = for=20 1st, $1500 for 2nd and $1000 for 3rd=20 place. Winners will be = invited to=20 present their designs at the 2005 Aircraft Technology, Integration and=20 Operations Conference. Judging:<o:p></o:p> Students must design, document, fabricate, = and=20 demonstrate the aircraft they determine as best capable of achieving the = highest=20 score on the specified mission profile(s). Flight scores will be based = on the=20 demonstrated mission performance obtained during the contest. Each team must also submit a written = Design Report.=20 A maximum of 100 points will be awarded for the team design report. = Scores for=20 the written reports will be announced at the beginning of the = fly-off. Each aircraft will have computed a Rated = Aircraft=20 Cost, reflecting the complexity/technology of the design. All aircraft radios must have a fail-safe mode that = is=20 automatically selected during loss of transmit signal. The aircraft Rx should always be powered on = and the=20 throttle verified to be "closed" before activating the motor arming=20 switch. Fuses MUST be = accessible from outside the aircraft and act as the "safeing"=20 device.
