1998 OSU Team Black "Abserokee"

Summary
This airplane was designed for the 1997/1998 AIAA/Cessna/ONR Design/Build/Fly contest. The mission objective was to carry a 7.5 lb steel payload and perform as many laps as possible within 7 minutes. Aircraft were subject to several design constraints including a runway length of 300 ft., a battery weight of no more than 2.5 lb etc.

The mission objective was to carry a 7.5 lb steel payload and perform as many laps as possible within 7 minutes. Upon entering the course, the aircraft had to perform the flight profile shown. After completing that profile once, the aircraft could simply do laps of the course without the 30 turns.
Some of the constraints and design challenges were:
300 ft runway with T/O over a 6 ft obstacle
Maximum of 2.5 pounds of NiCd batteries
Aircraft must be lifted at wing tips for full gross weight test
Electric motor
700 ft legs in the course
The overall score was based on the number of laps accomplished times the written report score.
